Senior Manager of Legal and Compliance

Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join an insurance company. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all legal and compliance matters on behalf of the insurance company, ensuring adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards. This role requires a strategic thinker with sound judgment and exceptional leadership abilities to effectively manage a team and provide expert advice to the insurance company's senior management.
Responsibilities:
Legal Strategy and Oversight:
- Develop and implement the insurance company's legal and compliance strategy in alignment with its business objectives.
- Provide expert legal advice and guidance to the insurance company's senior management on matters of significant legal importance.
- Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends impacting the insurance industry to ensure compliance and mitigate legal risks.
- Collaborate with external legal counsel when necessary.
Compliance Management:
- Establish and maintain an effective compliance program for the insurance company, ensuring adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Conduct regular compliance audits and risk assessments to identify areas of non-compliance or potential risks.
- Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and internal controls within the insurance company to promote a culture of compliance.
- Provide training and guidance to the insurance company's employees on compliance matters.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Monitor and interpret regulatory changes and developments affecting the insurance industry.
- Ensure the insurance company's compliance with regulatory requirements, including licensing, reporting, and disclosure obligations.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and manage regulatory inquiries, investigations, and audits on behalf of the insurance company.
Contract Management:
- Review and negotiate contracts and agreements entered into by the insurance company.
- Ensure contractual compliance and mitigate legal risks associated with business relationships.
- Provide guidance and support to the insurance company's contract management team.
Risk Management:
- Identify and assess legal and compliance risks faced by the insurance company.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and initiatives.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as Risk Management and Internal Audit, to ensure comprehensive risk mitigation practices.
Team Management:
- Recruit, develop, and manage a high-performing legal and compliance team.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to team members.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
Qualifications:
- A Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the bar and in good standing with the relevant jurisdiction.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in legal and compliance roles within the insurance industry or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of insurance laws, regulations, and industry practices.
- Strong understanding of corporate governance principles and best practices.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing legal and compliance strategies.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team.
